We all know the usual suspects, Hey Arnold, Doug, Rugrats, Rocko’s Modern Life, and who can forget the definitely inappropriate for kids, gold standard of Ren and Stimpy. One question still remained in our minds, what cartoons deserved a little more credit for how awesome they were? The popular but not-as-mainstream shows that were unique, creative, and definitely a little unhinged. The team at DCTC thought long and hard on this one and here is where we landed on our Top 3 Underrated Nickelodeon Cartoons.

Aaahh!! Real Monsters

Aaahh!! Real Monsters was the unanimous number one choice for this list. Don’t lose your eyeballs over this one, it might make you feel icky but Aaahh!! Real Monsters was a gem of cartoon. This show combines the power of friendship with the chaotic nervous energy that every school-aged kid could identify. What’s not to love about a monster academy set under a New York City dump? Just don’t let the Gromble catch you slacking off!

Angry Beavers

Grab your S stencil and climb aboard the S.S. Ssssss along side your two favorite irritated damn dwellers, the Angry Beavers. Whether you identify more with Daggett’s nervous energy or Norbert’s patronizing ways you can relate to at least one if not both of these beavers, especially if you’re a sibling. Angry Beavers perfectly demonstrates the chaotic dynamic that comes from within a family. This show had a lot of easy slapstick laughs that at times went too far but it was chock full of clever moments. 

Invader Zim

Finishing off the list is the little alien who tried his little heart out but failed miserably pretty much every time, it's Invader Zim. For most people GIR may have been the best part but this show was obviously so much more than that. This show had gags for days, turning Invader Zim’s crude understanding of earth and its creatures into laugh after laugh. Not convinced? Well maybe some time in "a room with a moose" will change your mind.
